We need our Parliament to be more representative

Posted on 5th Dec 2019 in Campaigning, News

Do you think it's important that those seeking to represent us have 'normal' experiences and understand everyday struggles that most people in this country face? I certainly do.

I've had jobs in a local hair salon, working in a cafe, in a warehouse, in a kids clothes shop and in McDonalds. My family wanted me to stay in education but they also wanted me to understand the importance of being independent and having a good work ethic so they encouraged me to have these part-time jobs throughout my studies.

For too long, too many politicans (the 'Jacob Rees Moggs of the world') haven't had these experiences. I think that's bad for representation and ultimately creates bad policies.

We need our Parliament to be more representative. I am standing so we can work towards that and so we can have a local champion, someone from here, fighting for us in Parliament. I have spent the last 8 years working in Westminster and as a public servant at the Bank of England. I know how government and policy making works and can hit the ground running from day one. I'll be campaigning on issues like the Urgent Care Centre, the poor regulation of housing developers, the lack of a police presence in our communities and the need for more funding for our schools.

Back me for someone with local passion and national experience.
