GE2019 New Build Regulation
Posted on 5th Dec 2019 in Campaigning, News
Over the past few months, I’ve become aware of some issues with existing property law and rights of those who buy new builds ðŸ . Issues in both Priors Hall and Little Stanion have made clear to me we need reforms.
Having met with residents in both areas, I’ve got a few ideas of how the issues can be addressed (none of these are an instant fix but they would help). If I were your MP, I’d hit the ground running by:
✅Submitting Written Parliamentary Questions on the issue to achieve wider recognition of the problem and build a better understanding of the national scale of the problem;
✅Holding a backbench debate on proper regulation of developers: this would be with the intention of putting pressure on the government (whoever wins on 12th December) to take legislative action;
✅ Seeking to agree some text with the Table Office in Parliament and attaching this to any relevant government bill in a future Queen's speech; and
✅ If Labour form the next government, set up a meeting with the Housing Minister, John Healey MP, local residents and developers so that the Minister could hear the issues directly and - hopefully - be motivated to take formal action.
Please share with anyone you think might be affected by these issues.
I hope you can vote for me on 12th December so we can hit the ground running and you can have an MP on your side, fighting our case in Westminster.
