Local High Streets

Posted on 1st Sep 2019 by Beth Miller in Campaigning

Our high streets need revamped. Since the opening of Rushden Lakes and a few larger chains, the high streets in East Northamptonshire, especially in Raunds and Irthlingborough seem to have suffered.

Prorogation of Parliament

Posted on 1st Sep 2019 by Beth Miller in Campaigning

Join us on Tuesday to show the strength of feeling against the PM’s decision to close Parliament. Whether you’re a ‘leaver’ or a ‘remainer’, what the PM has done sets a very worrying precedent for our democracy.

Community Campaign Success

Posted on 27th Aug 2019 by Beth Miller in Campaigning

🔈 Community Campaign Success 👮🏻‍♂️👮🏽‍♀️👏🏻

You might have heard the good news last week that a Police Response Team will now be based in the constituency once again. Hopefully response times will come down, criminals will be deterred and people will feel safer.

Corbyn in Corby

Posted on 20th Aug 2019 by Beth Miller in News, Visits

Yesterday here in Corby, Jeremy Corbyn chose to launch Labour’s plan for a better future. As the Labour candidate for this constituency, it was great to host the event and ensure our area got some national attention.

Johnson's No Deal Brexit

Posted on 20th Aug 2019 by Beth Miller in Campaigning

Not everyone will agree with this but I feel is absolutely vital, on something as big as this, that I’m completely open and honest. I’ve said it before but as the situation is developing I wanted to update you all. 🤓

A Level Results 2019

Posted on 20th Aug 2019 by Beth Miller in News

Thinking of everyone getting their results today. A stressful but hopefully an exciting time too. For those who didn’t get the results they wanted and might be feeling a little lost, remember you don’t need to know what you want to do at 18 - ‘the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.’ 😉😘

Lots of options for people to consider: UCAS Clearing, further study with Tresham and the option of an apprenticeship where you’re paid to study!

Mary Butcher

Posted on 20th Aug 2019 by Beth Miller in News

Today we said ‘goodbye’ to Cllr Mary Butcher. Mary was a fantastic local champion and the turnout showed just how well respected, from across the political spectrum, Mary was. Lee did a brilliant eulogy - I have nothing but respect for the people who have the courage to speak at a loved ones funeral.

One thing that came across was Mary’s passion for fighting injustice and her determination. She was a strong voice for our community and while working at Asda became a well know local figure, raising thousands for charities.

It struck me as poignant that today also marks GMB Union’s ‘action day’ against the new contacts being pushed on Asda workers by what strikes me as the greediness of top dogs. I can imagine if Mary was still working there, she would be up in arms, standing up against this injustice.

Incinerator Plans in Corby Borough

Posted on 5th Aug 2019 by Beth Miller in Campaigning, News

You might have heard about plans to impose a new incinerator in Corby and for rubbish from elsewhere to be imported in and disposed of here. I’m not an expert in this area (who is!?) but the incinerator will burn rubbish, about 260,000 tones per year, to produce electricity and could have a damaging environmental impact on the area.

Fun day at the carnival and highland gathering, followed by a lovely brie and cranberry toastie (😍) at the Old Village tea cottage! Took Harry but think it was all a bit much for him - he was one tired dog!

Our MP votes against the rights of women in Northern Ireland

Posted on 9th Jul 2019 by Beth Miller in Campaigning, News

Today, MPs voted resoundingly to extend same-sex marriage and access to abortion to Northern Ireland, bringing NI into line with the rights we all have here in the rest of the U.K and in the Republic of Ireland.  Unfortunately our own MP was one of just 99 who chose to vote against Stella Creasy’s amendment, therefore seeking to stop the right of women to choose.

Campaigning in Irthlingborough, fun at Tannerfest

Posted on 7th Jul 2019 by Beth Miller in News

Enjoyed the sun this weekend with more campaigning in Irthlingborough followed by Tannerfest, just outside of the constituency in Loddington. All the profits from the festival go to local charities and Corby band, the Modern Age played a brilliant set. Camped for the first time in ages too! 👌🏻😁 Hope you all had a good’un.

Tribute to Mary Butcher

Posted on 5th Jul 2019 by Beth Miller in News

Very sad news about Mary. She was a lovely woman, spoke her mind, wore her heart on her sleeve and was a real voice of reason at some tense Labour meetings over the years. She also had the biggest smile, the most brilliant, fully invested laugh and great sense of fashion - she had amazing jacket, handbag and jewellery combos! I was proud to call her a friend. ‬
